BAKEWELL

先日、イギリスの北部にあるBAKEWELLという小さな村へ行きました。積み上げた石やレンガで建てられた数々の家は、殆どの築100〜200年だそうで、本当に絵本の中へ入り込むような感覚を味わいました。この村では、自宅や車の鍵を掛けないまま外出しても平気だそうで、やはり安全な田舎町では、どの国でも同じような習慣がある事を知りました。

"SUPER" MARKET

違う国や地域へ行った際、僕は必ず現地のスーパーマーケットを訪れます。そこへ行けば、その国や地域の食文化が一瞬にして分かるからです。今回は駅の近くにある大型スーパーマーケット、WAITROSEを紹介します。WAITROSEは他の店に比べて少し値段が高い分、品揃えが豊富で食品のクオリティが高いです。特にプライベート・ブランドが充実していて、一目で商品の内容が分かるシンプルなパッケージが格好良いです。ロンドンへ訪れた際は、色んなスーパーマーケットへ行ってみて下さい。どの店も、その店の特徴があって本当に面白いです。

"There is one thing I always do when I visit a new place. To go to a local supermarket. A supermarket is somewhere you can have the same experience with local people in foreign countries. Here in London, each supermarket sells different things in different ways. While visiting London, I strongly recommend to visit variety of supermarkets. Believe me, it won't be a waste of time."
