オランダから帰国してから、数ヶ月間NIKE JAPANのブランドデザイン・チームでインターンとしてお仕事をさせて頂きました。きっかけは、僕の師匠となる方の紹介でした。初日から撮影の同行をさせて頂き、その夜はUNDERCOVERとのアパレルライン、GYAKUSOUのイベントにも参加させて頂きました。僕はグラフィック・デザインを学んだバックグラウンドがあったので、主に任されたお仕事はNIKE HARAJUKUのディスプレイ・デザインやTシャツの作成でした。そんな中、常にボスから「グラフィックを学んできたからと言って、それだけの枠に捕われるな」という事を言われてきました。美術大学である一つの分野を学んできた僕にとって、自分の関わった事の無い領域へ足を踏み出す事は、少々勇気がいる行為でした。それと同時に、僕の中で「出来る事」と「出来ない事」の線引きを、はっきりとし過ぎてきた部分もありました。しかし、このような考え方を持っていると、視野が全く広がらないまま、特定の仕事しか出来ない人間になってしまうと気付きました。良く言いますが、何事にも興味を持つ事は本当に大事だと思います。この事に気付けただけでも、大きな収穫でした。ここで働く先輩方は、本当に心温かい人達ばかりで、それぞれ本当に面白いバックグラウンドを持っていました。この数ヶ月間を通じて大きな企業の魅力的な一面と、デザインが世の中に出るまでの大きな壁を見させて頂きました。チームのメンバーとして迷惑ばかり掛けてしまいましたが、僕は全てを含めてNIKE JAPANで働けた事を光栄に思います。それでは大学院へ戻るため、ロンドンへ再び旅立ちます。
"Since coming back from Amsterdam, I've been working for NIKE JAPAN's Brand Design Team as an intern for several months. On the first day, I joined the photo shooting crew to look for a good location to take pictures of athletes. Also on the same day, there was an event for a new clothing line named GYAKUSOU by UNDERCOVER and NIKE. During this internship, my job was to create some displays for the flagship store in HARAJUKU and to design some T-shirts. My boss always told me to be open minded and not to create things as a graphic designer just because I studied this subject. Maybe, his message was to pay attention on any kind of things, and not to concentrate on one particular subject. As my first degree was graphic design, I had a habit of thinking things graphically. But unfortunately, brand design is not always about graphic. You should always think about both 2D and 3D. It is extremely important to be interested in many kind of subjects. This is the most important thing I learnt from my boss. While working for NIKE JAPAN, many people supported me in different kind of ways. Especially, my team members were technical in design and heart warming as a colleague. I found out many elements during these months. This may be good things and sometimes difficult things. However, as a whole, I am very proud for working in NIKE JAPAN. It was a significant experience. Now, it is time to fly back to London."
